The online conference with three sessions entitled “The European Union as a Global Player” was held by Istanbul 29 Mayıs University Jean Monnet Chair COAWARE in cooperation with Istanbul Consular Corps (ICC), Economic Development Foundation (IKV) and Beyoğlu Muncipality within the scope of 9th of May – Europe Day Activities, on 5 May 2021, numerous distinguished Turkish and Foreign academics & bureaucrats came together, notably with the keynote address of HE Federica Mogherini former HRVP of the European Union and Rector of College of Europe; Deputy Minister of Turkish MFA and Director of EU Affairs HE Ambassador Faruk Kaymakcı; Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut; Consul General of Croatia in Istanbul and Head of Istanbul Consular Corps (ICC) Dr. Ivana Zerec.

The webinar has reflected upon the issue of the potential of the European Union as a Global Actor based on the views and experiences of the very distinguished speakers and discuss what the bureaucratic, institutional, political and other impediments to that role may be.

At the event where EU’s global position were discussed, it is stated that the EU will become stronger than ever before and it will transform itself into a key global playmaker with Turkey’s participation.

This event was visible all around Istanbul with the partnership of Beyoğlu Municipality.
